Since Rosa and Ada sailed to Scotland in 1981, she has been gradually restored each winter. It was always the aim to have her sailing each year, and to work within the limits of money available, so progress was gradual over the first ten years. |

During the winter of 1991-92 some extensive restoration was made to her. The deck leaked in several places and needed replacing. When the old deck was removed, it became obvious that most beams required to be replaced, and that the stern needed rebuilding. The top strake and a few planks also required replacing. |

The work was undertaken at Troon Marina by Peter Jenson, a Danish shipwright, who had sailed to Scotland during that summer. While the work progressed, Rosa and Ada remained afloat in her berth, protected from the weather by a framed cover. Peter lived aboard his boat, which was berthed next to her all winter. |

| The oak beams were replaced with elm of heavier dimensions. The deck was laid in 2'' larch, and the covering boards in iroko. The stern was strongly reconstructed with elm and iroko. |

Deckhouses and hatches were constructed mainly in iroko. The oak top strake was replaced with 2.5'' larch, which was steamed on the pontoon. |

The conditition of the mast had been suspect for some time because it had some deep shakes. It required replacement. At Gairlochy, in the Great Glen, a Douglas Fir was selected and felled. The tree was taken to Corpach Boatbuilders near Fort William, where Don Hind formed the new mast during the winter of 1998-99. It was then transported to Troon, where it was craned into place. The old mast was then reworked to replace the bowsprit, which needed attention. |

| From the time of building a hand-spike windlass had been used weigh anchor. The main halliard was used to launch and recover the clinker dinghy. In 1999 I acquired an old windlass.It was restored and converted to hydraulic power to ease these tasks. |

A BMC 2.5 litre diesel engine was installed by Crouch Engineering in 1981 before Rosa and Ada sailed to Scotland. This engine was replaced in 2000, with a Ford Mermaid Meteor II 1.8 litre, 3.1 gearbox and 18''x16 pitch propeller. |
